University of New Mexico Sports. The University of New Mexico boasts a successful athletics department, with men’s and women’s sports teams playing in the Mountain West Conference of the NCAA. The University of New Mexico Lobos compete in baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, skiing, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
